Mark Nuske wins North Coast Handicap Competition

Mark Nuske (Sawtell) defeated Roy Peisley (Taree)to win the North Coast Handicap Snooker Competition in a nail-biting five frame match which went down to wire. Mark needed both the pink and black in the final frame to win and potted them in convincing fashion.

An earlier fight back by Roy seen the game levelled 2 all in the 4th frame after a 'spectator friendly' 22 break which saw an amazing blue go around the table and sneak past the black perched precariously over the top pocket. Congratulations to both of our finalists, well done.

Competition was fierce all weekend, many of the top players were knocked out of the main draw in the first round. Brett Hunter was unfortunate enough to be included here, but subsequently went on to win the Repechage after playing consistently for the remainder of the weekend.

With the tables having just recently been recovered, it was the general concensus of the players that break building would be diffucult, despite the playing surface being in top condition. This however didnt stop local man Rob Nicholls from compiling a commendable 51 point break to take the prize for Highest Break of the Competition. Semi-Finalist, Jeff Otto also compiled a 44, coming from 37 points behind to take the frame.

Congratulations must also go to our losing Semi-Finalists, Jeff Otto and Peter Peawkumdee both of Coffs Harbour.

As always, everyone I had the chance to talk to enjoyed the weekend and the play, as did the committee. We hope to see everyone back next year for what is certain to be an even more enjoyable competition.

Sam.

$100 Incentive for August Handicap Competition

As an incentive for women to play in more competition in general, the club has decided to offer $100 to the best performed woman in our annual august North Coast Handicap Snooker Competition.

This is a prime opportunity for the women of the Snooker and Billiards community to show they can stick it to the men and make a tidy profit for doing it.

As a side note, nominations for the competition will close at 7pm on Wednesday 16th August. No further nominations will be accepted after this time. Anybody whom is posting their nomination in and expects it to arrive on or after the 16th is advised to contact a comittee member and inform them.

Nominations may be posted to the club using the details on our contact page.

Looking forward to a great weekend this year, hope to see you all there.

Revised Grading System for Club Graded Competitions

Due to an overly large amount of A and B Grade players and a low amount of C Grade players participating in the clubs graded competitions, the grading structure has been revised.

The Grading now stands to have a small A Grade and medium sized B Grade instead of a huge A & B Grade contingent.

A Grade will now ONLY comprise of 8 players. The grade will be our 'premier' grade, containing only the clubs best players. To remain in the grade the player must play consistantly well and consistantly better than those in B Grade.

B Grade will now contain those removed from A grade and a portion of those who were in B Grade. B Grade will be the stepping stone for those who play well to reach A Grade.

C Grade now has more players due to the re-shuffle.

All graded competitions are still handicapped so there's no need for concern about A grade players being in B Grade or etcetera. Gradings will be re-assessed a various points throughout the year.

We hope this system will both level the playing field a bit and encourage all our players to play well and attain a higher grading.
